Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari or Kanniyakumari is a town, located in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. What sets the region apart from the other Indian towns is that Kanyakumari is located on the southernmost tip of the Indian mainland. it is often said as Cape Comorin, the town is a well-known tourist destination of India, widely renowned for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets along with rich picturesque beauty of the region, which is further highlighted by the geographical location of the town, sitting at the convergence of three water bodies – the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.

The town derives its name from the Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari Temple, situated on the sea shore. The town held great significance and was widely renowned for pearl fishery. Kanyakumari has also been the centre for art and religion for many centuries. Ruled by the Cheras, Cholas, Pandyas and the Nayaks, Kanyakumari is also an architecturally rich zone of India, with each dynasty leaving their mark upon the region, reflected among the various temples and other such monuments.

Along with enjoying the beauty of the region, Kanyakumari also offers numerous tourist attractions located in and around the town. Some of the popular tourist attractions of Kanyakumari include the Vivekananda Rock, Vivekanandapuram, Thiruvalluvar Statue, Our Lady of Ransom Church, Padmanabhapuram Palace, Kamarajar Mani Mantapa Monument and the various beaches along with many other such attractions located in close proximity of the town.
