Nandi Hills

Nandi Hills is the ideal vacation spot for those seeking a weekend getaway. Situated just 60 kms north of Bangalore at a height of 1478m, Nandi hills is the most famous weekend gateway among the Bangaloreans. The place acquired its name from the magnificent statue of Nandi at the doorstep of the Yoganandeeshwara Temple. You will experience a great peaceful trek towards the hill top.This summer resort which is also known as Nandidurga is once served as one of the summer retreats of Tipu Sultan. Similar to other hill stations also showcases great legacies of Britishers such as European style bungalows, lush gardens. Nandi hills is also famous as the origin point of various rivers.

Planning a trip here on a lazy weekend is a good idea, when time is short and when one needs a change, time constraints notwithstanding. Nandi Hills, is historic importance reason Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore,( 1750-1799 A.D.) had built a fort here, and had a particular high point ear-marked to punish wrong-doers: it is named ‘Tipu’s Drop’, and the reason is not hard to imagine. Later, at the time British Raj, Lord Cubbon made Nandi Hills his summer residence. The white-washed and modest bungalow, now a hundred years of age, still stands witness to this.

Geographically, Nandi Hills is a part of the old-fold mountains, and it’s height is a mere 1485 ft. above mean sea level. The drive to the Hills is interesting, as one passes sleepy villages and farm lands.This is a satellite township of Bangalore,called Devanahalli. 

Nandi Hills is a nice spot for nature lovers. You can view many different species of birds, and listen to many enchanting bird calls. Worth a visit at least once, and a good idea to take friends to, if you’re bored of the usual partying-shopping-cooking-at-home routine, and are thirsty for some good, fresh,mountain air.
