Gokarna

Gokarna is a very important excursion center with the well-known Mahabaleshwara temple and is also a tourist attraction for its beaches. Gokarna means ‘cow’s ear’. It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a Shiva Linga out of the ear of a cow. This cow is believed to be a manifestation of Prithvi, or Mother Earth.

There are many Gokarna Beaches to visit- and Kudle Beach, Om Beach, Half-Moon Beach and Paradise Beach are ideal spots to visit in Gokarna. Om Beach is a unique beach, in the shape of the holy symbol of Om.

Enjoy yourself in the isolated Paradise beach, which can be reached only by boat or by trekking through a forest path. Relax and rejuvenate your body with Ayurvedic treatments – a relaxing oil bath or a yoga and meditation session. Visit the famous temples around the town, including the beautiful Mahabaleshwara Temple.

Lose yourself in the rhythm and sounds of nature, the splashing waves, the wind rustling through the trees and the songs of birds. At the center of the resort is a blue-domed meditation center that reflects the design of the Gokarna Temple. Yoga and meditation classes and Ayurvedic therapies can help you revitalize your mind and body. The cuisine offered is a blend of fresh farm produce from nearby villages and fresh seafood. SwaSwara is ideal for those who want to spend at least a week in an isolated paradise, away from the hassles of city life.

Gokarna is not directly connected on the train and air routes. The nearest airport is Dabolim in Goa, 140 km away and the nearest railway station is Ankola, 20 km away. Gokarna is 475 km from Bangalore. You can get many KSRTC and private buses to Gokarna from Bangalore.

Gokarna is a great place to visit, with temples and beaches and hills. Spend a luxurious holiday in one the resorts in Gokarna, near the beaches, and come back recharged to tackle the everyday routine of city life.
