Ponda

Located in the North Goa district of India, Ponda also called Fonda is the capital of Ponda Taluka. It is a major Hindu pilgrimage center of Goa. Ponda lies 28 km (17 miles) southeast of Panaji, the capital of Goa is northeast of Margao. Ponda is also called “Antruz Mahal” because of the presence of many famous temples and cultural wealth heritage. Beside that it is also the industrial capital of Goa because there are many industries and factories located here.

Popular Attractions of Ponda:

Temples: It is like a heaven for Hindu devotees with so many temples at one place. It is also called the Temple Town of Goa. There are a total of nine temples in this town and the most famous of these is the Mahalasa Narayani at Mardol. Beside that Sri Devaki Krishna, Sri Kamakshi, Sri Manguesh, Sri Gopal Ganpati and Sri Mahalaxmi are other popular religious places of this region. The architecture of these religious centers is simply magnificent and amazing.

Churches: Church of Holy Spirit and Rachol Seminary are the main cathedrals of Ponda. The Portuguese influence can be clearly seen on the architectural style of these buildings. Every Sunday a major feast is organized in these cathedrals which is very popular among travelers.

Other Attractions: Apart from these religious centers there are many other attractions in this town like the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary and Dudhsagar waterfalls. These waterfalls are very famous among the holiday-makers and picnic goers. The silent environment and the breathtaking beauty of this place is very charismatic. Bondala is a place for wildlife enthusiasts and a perfect destination to watch different animals in their natural habitat. There is also a botanical garden and deer park in this sanctuary.
